What Skills Do You Need as an HR Manager?
HRM stands for Human Resources Management . It is a commonly used term that concerns personal policy,
P&O (Personnel and Organization), human resources, personnel management and often at a strategic level.
Whether you work for a large or small company, HR managers are the backbone of the company. These HR managers
play a crucial role in improving business strategy and handling most employee-related matters. An HR manager
must stay abreast of various aspects, including developments in marketing strategies, management skills, general business developments and technological and digital developments.
Below are (in no particular order) ten key skills that every HR manager needs to successfully run a
company's HR department, but also to find the best people (the best talent) in the market and employ these
professionals in the company where you work.
1. Negotiation
Negotiation is an essential HRM skill. Every HR professional must be able to negotiate. Negotiation helps
deal with many conflicting interests and find a middle ground that is acceptable to all parties. Many issues
facing the HR manager are likely to be “gray areas.” If you can't negotiate as an HR manager, you have to learn
it!
2. Good organizational skills
Being systematic and disciplined is one of the most important HRM skills. Anyone who works in an HR
department must be well organized, personally efficient and have a tight schedule to succeed. It goes
without saying that your office is tidy. An HR professional must always file paperwork correctly, especially
when it comes to employee personnel files.
3. Strong communication skills
An HR manager must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. If HR professionals cannot
communicate with top-level managers, employees, and stakeholders, a company is less likely to succeed.
In twenty twenty, HR professionals can use an extensive package of communication tools. An empathetic
attitude is important. You must have the ability to clearly understand problems that exist before you can
address them.
4. Problem solving skills / conflict management
Not all employees in a company mesh well with their colleagues or managers. This can result in conflicts.
So there is a need to manage conflicts and resolve the problems. It is the HR manager's responsibility to
ensure that employees work together well. This results in a good working situation with good quality output.

management. You are able to acquire and retain new talent in the organization by accurately framing the benefits
and rewards. Moreover, as an HR manager you must have analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills to
deliver employee benefits according to standards.

HR employees also have the task of organizing the recruitment and selection of new staff. It is critical that an
HR professional have strong personal and decision-making skills to be an effective hiring manager. Human
resources executives deal with the interview process and hiring, so as an HR professional you need to
present the company by communicating effectively. Additionally, you must have the ability to identify
best practices so that competitive candidates can be evaluated.
9. Team building
An HR manager must have resource and talent planning. HR management must have a perfect reward system where
experiences, skills and rewards are rewarded in the right way. An HR manager must develop a positive relationship
with the employees in the work environment. HR managers must be able to understand team dynamics and work in
a way to bring in diverse professionals and develop teamwork.

As an HR manager you must have skills to assist, coach and develop employees. The main goal of your work
should be continuous development and innovation. To further develop as an HR professional, you use technology
and keep yourself up-to-date.
